DESCRIPTION:Dr. Aleksandra Dier is a counterterrorism and gend
 er expert at the UN Security Council Counter-Terro
 rism Executive Directorate. Over the past decade\,
  Aleksandra has worked for the United Nations in t
 he areas of conflict prevention and mediation\, pe
 acekeeping\, sanctions\, and counterterrorism. She
  served in UN field missions in Afghanistan and Bu
 rundi\, and was involved in the planning of the UN
  peacekeeping mission in Mali. She also served as 
 the special assistant to the Special Adviser to th
 e Secretary-General on Conflict Prevention. Prior 
 to joining the UN\, she worked in several think ta
 nks on European security policy and crisis managem
 ent in Africa. Aleksandra holds a PhD in Internati
 onal Relations from the University of Oxford. \n\n
 The CGHR Practitioner series seeks to allow studen
 ts to listen and speak to a selection of high-leve
 l experts working in these fields\, and address ke
 y issues and questions. The seminars which take pl
 ace during the Lent term\, are designed to equip s
 tudents with an in-depth and critical look at what
  each area involves\; the type of work carried out
 \, contingent challenges and essential competencie
 s. The first part of the session will introduce th
 e speaker\, chaired by a discussant from CGHR \, a
 nd will open up to the audience in the second port
 ion of the evening to provide the opportunity for 
 students to engage with the topics discussed.\n
