DESCRIPTION:Fungi perform a wide array of functions in ecosyst
ems\, contributing to ecosystems structure\, maint
 enance\, stability\, as well as human well-being.
Some of their services are also disservices from h
uman point of view\, such as disease or carbon rel
ease from ecosystems. Slightly exaggerating one co
uld say that we breathe fungi\, eat fungi\, wear f
ungi and live in fungi. But\, to which degree do w
e understand the availability of fungi and their c
apacity to perform their functions in ecosystems?\
n\nI will present recent advances in understanding
fungal distribution\, mostly\, but not solely foc
using on soils and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi. I
’ll zoom into human impact on fungal availability
and function\, as well as on how reversing fungal
availability can speed up ecosystem recovery after
  disturbance.\n\nI will conclude with speculations
on how to better embrace the fungal potential for
sustaining nature as well as humans.\n\nContact r
eception@plantsci.cam.ac.uk for a Zoom link prior
to a talk if you are not on our mailing list. Due
to having to go onine\, we are restricting the tal
ks to University of Cambridge and alumni to keep t
 hem as informal as possible.
