DESCRIPTION:Despite the research on the dynamic behaviour of\npile foundat
 ions from last five to six decades\, pile\nfoundations continued to fail d
 uring the recent\nearthquakes highlighting that there are still some\naspe
 cts that needs a thorough investigation. This\nseminar presents the resear
 ch outcomes from\nDr Garala’s PhD on better understanding the\ndynamic b
 ehaviour of pile foundations in soft clays\nand layered soils from specifi
 cally designed\ndynamic centrifuge experiments. This talk covers\nthe dyna
 mic behaviour of soft clays and layered\nsoils\; importance of kinematic l
 oads in the design of\npile foundations and the influence of phase\ndiffer
 ence between the kinematic and inertial loads\non the dynamic behaviour of
  pile foundations.
