DESCRIPTION:Investigations into the subglacial hydrology netwo
rk beneath the Antarctic Ice Sheet have shown that
it is a dynamic system which is highly sensitive
to small changes in the surface morphology. Howev
er\, the role of subglacial water in controlling t
he dynamics of ice flow is not fully understood\,
and hence a physically realistic numerical model o
f the Antarctic Ice Sheet does not presently exist
. This seminar will describe the nature of Antarc
tic subglacial hydrology\, highlighting the locati
ons which may be highly sensitive to surface chang
es\, and discuss previous and potential modelling
efforts which have attempted to link the two dynam
 ic systems.
