DESCRIPTION:Professor Simon Schaffer will be joining the Science and Techn
 ology Reading Group as a speaker on January 23th at 2pm.\n\nHe will be giv
 ing a talk on the complex relationship between sociology and what has come
  to be known as science and technology studies. Professor Schaffer will sk
 etch out the historic development of the tense relationship between these 
 two interconnected research fields. Furthermore\, possbile future scenario
 s will be addressed. After the talk\, there will be plenty of time to ask 
 questions and to discuss. \n\nSimon Schaffer is Professor of History and S
 cience at the University of Cambridge. His research focus lies on the prac
 tices\, materials and organisation of scientific inquiry between the seven
 teenth and nineteenth centuries\, including studies of astronomy\, natural
  philosophy\, technology and the physical sciences.\n\nThe STS-reading gro
 up at the Department of Sociology dearly invites everybody to join our upc
 oming session.
