DESCRIPTION:Never before has so much finance been committed to
  integrating environmental\, social and governance
factors into decision-making - and yet never befo
re has so much capital been out of alignment with
long-term sustainability. 2020 needs to be the yea
r when the world's financial system makes the irre
versible shift towards consistency with both the P
aris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goa
ls. Critical milestones include the COP26 climate
summit in Glasgow this November and the Biodiversi
ty summit in Kunming the month before. This lectur
e will identify the critical issues at stake in su
stainable finance and set out the new horizons for
action by the financial sector\, financial regula
tors and society at large.\n\nNick Robins joined t
he Grantham Research Institute in February 2018 as
Professor in Practice for Sustainable Finance. Ni
ck leads the sustainable finance research theme. T
he focus of his work is on how to mobilise finance
for a just transition\, the role of central banks
and regulators in achieving sustainable developme
nt and how the financial system can support the re
 storation of nature.\n\nFrom 2014 to 2018\, Nick w
as co-director of UN Environment’s Inquiry into a
Sustainable Finance System. As part of this\, Nick
led country activities in Brazil\, the EU\, India
\, Italy and the UK\, as well as thematic work foc
used on investors\, insurance and green banking.\n

Change Centre of Excellence at HSBC. Prior to HSB
C\, Nick was head of Sustainable and Responsible I
nvestment (SRI) funds at Henderson Global Investor
 s. Nick has also worked at the International Insti
tute for Environment and Development\, the Europea
n Commission and the Business Council for Sustaina
