DESCRIPTION:Many problems in materials science and biolo
gy involve particles interacting with strong\, sho
rt-ranged bonds\, that can break and form on exper
imental timescales. Treating such bonds as constra
ints can significantly speed up sampling their equ
ilibrium distribution\, and there are several meth
ods to sample subject to fixed constraints. We int
roduce a Monte Carlo method to handle the case whe
n constraints can break and form. Abstractly\, the
method samples a probability distribution on a&nb
sp\;stratification: a collection of manifol
ds of different dimensions\, where the lower-dimen
sional manifolds lie on the boundaries of the high
er-dimensional manifolds. We show several applicat
ions in polymer physics\, self-assembly of colloid
s\, and volume calculation.
