DESCRIPTION:The broad aim of the seminar is to explore\, through individua
 l presentations and group discussion\, the significance of risk for variou
 s aspects of individual and institutional life: its origin in human or sys
 tem behaviour\, its exploitation or containment\, and its broader conseque
 nces.  We intend to analyse examples of risk-taking and/or -response in ar
 eas such as investment\, data security (including identity theft)\, media 
 response\, and the psychology and science of risk.  We have asked the spea
 kers to talk about specific situations which will illustrate clearly diffe
 rent stages of the narrative of their particular example of risk.\n\nSir H
 oward Davies\, Director of London School of Economics\, has agreed to chai
