DESCRIPTION:A new family of exact solutions to the two-dimensional steady 
 incompressible Euler equation is presented. The solutions comprise two poi
 nt vortices of unit circulation &ndash\; a point vortex pair &ndash\; embe
 dded in a smooth sea of non-zero vorticity of &ldquo\;Stuart-type&rdquo\;.
  The solution is one of the simplest examples of a rich and diverse array 
 of similar global equilibria of the Euler equation identified by the autho
 rs. We also examine the point vortex limit of these new Stuart-embedded po
 int vortex equilibria which results in a two-real-parameter family of smoo
 thly deformable asymmetric point vortex equilibria in an otherwise irrotat
 ional flow.
