DESCRIPTION:In our daily lives\, we are bombarded with a stream of rapidly
changing visual input. Yet\, when studying brain representations\, stimul
i are generally presented in isolation. Here\, we studied the representati
onal dynamics of human vision using a combination of fast stimulus present
ation rates\, EEG\, and multivariate decoding analyses. Using presentation
rates of 5 images per second\, we were able to obtain the representationa
l structure of a large number of stimuli\, and showed the emerging abstrac
t categorical organisation of this structure. In a second experiment\, we
replicated these results and explored how varying the presentation rate af
fects the amount of processing for individual stimuli. These results show
that the combination of fast stimulus presentation rates and multivariate
decoding analyses has unprecedented potential for studying the temporal dy
namics of information coding in the human visual system.
