DESCRIPTION:The macroscopic behaviour of materials with non-ho
mogeneous microstructure like composites\, bones a
nd concrete is strongly influenced by their materi
al characteristic lengths. Standard continuum mech
anics theories are inherently size independent. Co
uple-stress is the simplest generalised continuum
mechanics theory that can encompass the possibilit
y of predicting size effects. Its origins date back
to the early works of the Cosserat brothers\, and
has attracted renewed attention from researchers
recently. In this work\, we derive a new set of fu
ndamental solutions in closed form to be used conj
ointly with the boundary element method (BEM). A n
ew boundary integral equation arises to obtain the
moments and rotations introduced by the couple-st
ress formulation. We validate our proposed approac
 h with\nanalytical results obtained by Mindlin.\n
