SUMMARY:Exploring fundamental limits in future grids with mathematics\, co
mputation and data-based methods - David Hill (University of Hong Kong\; U
 niversity of Sydney)

DESCRIPTION:The talk will present results for computing stability limits u
sing a variety of approaches each with advantages and disadvantages arisin
g from the models used. Mathematics favours simplified equation-based mode
ls\; computation favours detailed physics-based models and newer data-base
d methods sometimes claim to be actually &lsquo\;model-free&rsquo\;. As sy
stems become more complex in likely scenarios for grids out to 2050and bec
ome more ever-changing there should be a new discussion about the merits o
f the associated methods. Results obtained in future grid and high renewab
le projects in Sydney and Hong Kong respectively will&nbsp\;be used for il
 lustration.
