DESCRIPTION:We are currently exploring the fundamental retinal circuitry\n
 using 2nm/pixel ultrastructural connectomics approaches in normal retina\,
  and\nin human and animal models of retinal degeneration.  Specifically\, 
 we are\ninterested in network topology of precise retinal circuitry and us
 ing that as a\nground truth to compare how circuit topologies are altered 
 in retinal\ndegenerative diseases.  In addition to revealing the fundament
 al framework of\nneural connectivities that electrophysiology and molecula
 r approaches can build\nupon\, there are implications for the preservation
  or modification of circuit\ntopologies in therapeutic interventions for v
 ision loss via gene therapy\,\nsurvival factors\, pharmacologic\, optogene
 tic\, bionic or biological implants.
