DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE TALK\n\nMicrofinance started out as an i
 ndustry funded primarily by donor capital and aid 
 money\, but in the past couple of years it has att
 racted a lot of\ninterest from private institution
 al and individual investors. These investors have 
 been attracted by high financial returns in the mi
 crofinance industry\, access to emerging markets a
 ssets\, good portfolio quality of MFIs and low cor
 relation with the rest of the economy. In this tal
 k Priyanka Gupta will address why commercial capit
 al is increasingly important in the microfinance s
 ector\, some recent examples of commercial funding
  in this sector\, and recent debates on profit mot
 ive crowding out the social motive.\n\nABOUT THE S
 PEAKER\n\nPriyanka Gupta is an Associate working i
 n the Investment Banking Division of Morgan Stanle
 y. She spent one year with Morgan Stanley's Microf
 inance Institutions Group\, working to establish t
 he group's\nstrategy with regard to equity investm
 ents and advisory services for microfinance instit
 utions. She was awarded the Willian Gates Cambridg
 e Scholarship in 2002\, and graduated in Economics
  from Cambridge University in 2005.\n       \n
