DESCRIPTION:Microstructures in martensites are often modeled v
ariationally by singularly perturbed multiwell ela
stic energies. In this talk\, I shall disusss rece
nt analytical progress on the associated non-conve
x vector-valued energy minimisation problems. The
focus will lie on scaling regimes for geometricall
y linear models for martensitic nuclei with small
volume fraction of one martensitic variant\, and o
 n needle-like microstructures. <br> This talk is b
 ased on joint works with S. Conti\, J. Diermeier\,
  N. L&uuml\;then\, D. Melching\, and M. Rumpf.
