DESCRIPTION:This Festival of Ideas event is a joint venture of the Wolfson
College Humanities Society and the Wolfson College Fine Arts Society. \n\
nDoes listening to music\, eating food or contemplating natural forms prod
uce colours\, shape or texture for you? Do you hear colours or see sounds
as shapes? Or does a sound have a flavour? Synaesthesia\, the phenomenon t
hat describes linkages in the brain\, which give rise to these experiences
\, is most frequently experienced by creative people such as musicians\, a
rtists\, and poets.\n\nA two-part lecture presents the neuroscience of syn
aesthesia\, followed by an illustrated talk by the artist Rhea Quien. She
relates her experiences of synaesthesia and its consequences in her creati
vity: stillness and movement – emptiness and form.\n\nView the exhibitio
n from 5.15pm\, enjoy the lecture at 6pm and ask questions over a glass of
wine.\n\nThe exhibition Dance of Light – Living Matter and Rhythm conti
nues at Wolfson College during Michaelmas term\, on Saturdays and Sundays
 from 3pm to 5pm.
