DESCRIPTION:Professor J.R. Spencer\, CBE\, QC (hon)\n\nThe speaker will be
 gin by examining the concept of "the truth"\, giving a lawyer's perspectiv
 e on a philosophical question. He will then discuss the history of access 
 to the truth\, and the control of it\, throughout the ages – leading to 
 conclusions about how these matters are now customarily viewed in modern d
 emocracies in the West. He will then examine the current threats to that u
 nderstanding: including irresponsibility and monopoly ownership of the pre
 ss and unlimited access to the internet and social media. He will conclude
