DESCRIPTION:This talk will first give a short survey of intellectual trend
 s and ideas that prevailed in Early Islamic Egypt\, taken exclusively from
  Arabic papyrus texts from between the 7th and 9th centuries CE. It will t
 hen focus on a specific text genre in order to trace the ways in which kno
 wledge was written down\, structured\, and passed on.
