DESCRIPTION:The world has become connected. Every year Zetabyt
es (10^21) of data are transferred through network
s\, and processed by increasingly powerful compute
rs. This trend\, however\, can not sustain. Alread
y the amount of data generated by user application
s exceeds the processing capacity of any single co
mputer. \nIn recent years a new class of network d
 evices\, programmable network devices\, has been i
ntroduced. The programmability of these devices al
lows us today not only to flexibly support more fu
nctionality within the network\, but also to move
``standard'' applications to run within the networ
 k. This talk will focus on this type of processing
within the network: In-Network Computing. Startin
g from an introduction to programmable network dev
ice\, I will explore the rise of In-Network Comput
ing\, the need for it\, and the challenges that ar
e yet to be faced. \nWith applications running wit
hin the network achieving orders-of-magnitude perf
 ormance improvement\, without incurring additional
hardware or power cost\, I will discuss the appli
cability of In-Network Computing to a range of app
lications and research disciplines. \n\nBio: Noa
is a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at the Comput
er Laboratory\, where she works on high performanc
 e networed-systems. Previously\, Noa had spent 15
years in industry\, last as a Senior Principal Chi
 p Architect at Broadcom.
