DESCRIPTION:There has been a recent surge in statistical methods for calib
 ration of inexact models in the most basic of settings.&nbsp\; Alongside t
 hese developments\, a controversy has emerged about the goals of calibrati
 on of inexact models.&nbsp\; This talk will trace a swath of research stem
 ming from about twenty years ago and potential concerns are marked along t
 he way.&nbsp\; The talk will also present some new ideas in this setting t
 hat might help close some of these philosophical and practical issues.<br>
