ist in the macroeconomic modelling team at Cambrid
ge Econometrics. She specialises in the applicatio
n of large-scale econometric models for scenario a
nalysis and has several years’ experience modellin
g policy scenarios using E3ME\, an econometric mod
el of the global economy. In recent months Sophie
has contributed to the European Commission’s impac
t assessment on the macroeconomic effects of measu
res to improve work-life balance and\, for the Eur
opean Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE)\, she m
anaged a project to assess the wider macroeconomic

d to the scenario design for this study into the i
mpacts of Brexit on low-income households.\n\nRich
ard Lewney is Chairman of Cambridge Econometrics w
here he has worked since 1988. He specialises in t
he application of economic modelling to policy ana
lysis\, policy evaluation and forecasting\, and he
directed the study on which this seminar draws. H
e recently completed a two-year project for DG Ene
rgy to improve the treatment of innovation and fin
ance in the macroeconomic modelling of decarbonisa
tion policies. He led the macroeconomic modelling
for DG Employment’s study on the feasibility of a
pan-European unemployment benefit system. He is cu
rrently directing a project to extend and upgrade
the economic modelling capability of Malta’s Minis

  Northern Powerhouse Independent Economic Review.
He is a Trustee of the Cambridge Trust for New Thi
nking in Economics which owns Cambridge Econometri
cs.\n\nLaurie Heykoop is an economist at the Josep
h Rowntree Foundation. His current areas of resear
ch include analysis of potential impacts of Brexit
on low-income households\, and monitoring the imp
act of inflation on the living standards of low-in
come households. Having graduated BA Economics and
Politics at Manchester University in 2012\, prior
to his current post Laurie spent over three years
as a government economist. \nHis work included pr
oducing official gas price projections\, advising
on options to reform agri-environment schemes\, an
d producing models to enhance targeting of fuel po
verty programmes. His other research interests inc
lude the economics of land\, housing\, and inequal
 ity.\n\n*Talk Overview* \nSeveral organisations ac
ross government\, academia\, and think tanks have
modelled the potential economic impacts of post-Br
exit trading arrangements. These have primarily fo
cussed on economy-wide impacts. The research pres
ented in this seminar focuses on analysis of impac
ts on low-income households. The research models a
range of potential post-Brexit trading arrangemen
ts\, producing estimates for impacts on prices\, w
ages\, and employment and then assesses the partic
 ular implications for low-income households.\n\nPl
