DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, 26th April 2018 11:00 - 18:00\nSmall Le
cture Theatre Department of Geography\nfree worksh
 op\n\nRecent outbreaks of dengue fever\, zika\, eb
ola\, and other diseases remind us that the urban
landscapes of late modernity and processes of urba
nization provide fresh opportunities for pathogeni
c agents and disease vectors. At the same time\, l
ong-standing colonial imaginaries of tropical envi
ronments\, racialized bodies\, and pathways of con
tagion continue to delineate technological\, spati
al\, and regulatory norms as well as quotidian enc
ounters. This workshop seeks to build an interdisc
iplinary conversation about urban infectious and e
pidemic disease through a postcolonial lens\, prob
ing how the material\, spatial\, and political lan
dscapes of colonial and postcolonial modernity inf
 orm ongoing vulnerabilities\, multi-species relati
 onships\, and public health frameworks.\n\nPartici
pants include Andrea Bagnato\, Uli Beisel\, Nandin
 i Bhattacharya\, Laurie Denyer Willis\, Matthew Ga
 ndy\, Steve Hinchliffe\, Michelle Pentecost\, Nida
  Rehman\, Freddie Stephenson\, and Meike Wolf.\n\n
