 second annual Kate Pretty Lecture on 'What Science
  Can Do: The Cambridge life science cluster at a p
 ivot point'\n\nThe Kate Pretty Lecture Series hono
 urs Dr Kate Pretty CBE\, Principal of Homerton Col
 lege (1991-2013) and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Un
 iversity of Cambridge (2004-2010)\, responsible fo
 r international strategy\, outreach\, lifelong lea
 rning\, and museums and libraries. An archaeologis
 t\, Dr Pretty served as President of the Council f
 or British Archaeology from 2008-2013. Dr Pretty’s
  time as Principal saw the College mark 100 years 
 in Cambridge\, widen its expertise across subject 
 disciplines\, and eventually become a full College
  of the University of Cambridge.\n\nThe first lect
 ure in this new series was entitled ‘The Cambridge
  of Tomorrow’\, and was delivered by the then Vice
 -Chancellor of the University of Cambridge\, Profe
 ssor Sir Leszek Borysiewicz FRS. This lecture took
  place on February 17 and over 200 guests attended
 \, both from the University of Cambridge and the w
 ider community. This year\, we are privileged to w
 elcome Pascal Soriot\, CEO of biopharmaceutical co
 mpany AstraZeneca. AstraZeneca recently relocated 
 their headquarters to Cambridge\, and we look forw
 ard to working with them more closely in the futur
 e.\n\nAs CEO of AstraZeneca\, Pascal brings a pass
 ion for science and medicine as well as significan
 t experience in established and emerging markets\,
  strength of strategic thinking\, a successful tra
 ck record of managing change and executing strateg
 y\, and the ability to lead a diverse organisation
 . He served as Chief Operating Officer of Roche’s 
 pharmaceuticals division from 2010 to September 20
 12 and\, prior to that\, Chief Executive Officer o
 f Genentech\, a biologics business\, where he led 
 its successful merger with Roche. Pascal joined th
 e pharmaceutical industry in 1986 and has worked i
 n senior management roles in numerous major compan
 ies around the world. He is a doctor of veterinary
  medicine (École Nationale Vétérinaire d’Alfort\, 
 Maisons-Alfort) and holds an MBA from HEC\, Paris.
  In 2012 he became Executive Director and Chief Ex
