DESCRIPTION:Natural dust is often associated with hot\, subtro
pical deserts\, but significant dust events have b
een reported from cold climates and high latitudes
. These have often been reported as ad hoc observa
tions of individual events. Over the past ten year
s researchers at Loughborough University have been
working with international colleagues to gain a m
ore systematic understanding of dust emissions at
high latitudes and to consider the global contribu
tion and impact of these emissions in the terrestr
ial\, marine\, atmospheric and cryospheric systems
of the Arctic and Antarctic. This talk outlines t
he evolution of our high latitude dust research an
d presents some of the main findings\, challenges
 and opportunities for future research.
