DESCRIPTION:The problem to be solved in this project is to dev
ise and test an improved method for measuring sour
ce and detector positions in an RTT system. The RT
T is a fixed gantry x-ray computed tomography sca
nner. The current method for geometry calibration
has certain limitations\, principally that it can
only derive variations in the XY plane (Z directio
n is the direction of travel through the machine)
and the test object needs to be scanned multiple t
imes. \n\nThe idea is for the student to design a
test piece that when scanned and analysed allows f
or accurate source and detector position estimates
\, and then to prove that the approach works by si
 mulation. \n
