Abstract
This lecture will examine the effects of cultural phenomena on patterns of genetic variation. I will focus on some cultural factors that play major roles in shaping the genetic diversity in human populations. I will present results from our studies in Central Asia and Central Africa that show how social organization has impacted the distribution of genetic diversity.
