Geological materials under extreme conditions
- đ¤ Speaker: Dr Chris Braithwaite, Surfaces, Microstructure & Fracture Group, Cavendish Laboratory
- đ Date & Time: Tuesday 12 May 2015, 09:00 - 09:30

Abstract
Explosive loading, for example in mining, can subject geological materials to rapid loading to pressures in the gigapascal range. In order to better understand the response of materials to such environments, and optimise the industrial processes involved, controlled experiments can be conducted in the laboratory. This talk will detail the results of a number of experimental investigations conducted in the SMF group, including the development of a novel technique to measure unloading in granular materials.
Series This talk is part of the Other Departmental Seminars series.
