In my presentation I would like to introduce Deltares and its activities in the Netherlands. Deltares is collaborating with Cambridge University on the EU program MPM -dredge. This concerns developing numerical methods for dredging purposes. Within this project there is an exchange of people and this is the reason for my stay in Cambridge.

My talk will also introduce a research project at Deltares for the European Space Agency (ESA) concerning the numerical modelling of wheels on loose sand. The presentation will cover Finite Element modelling of the tractive performance of a single wheel on soft soil and a simpler approach to capture this behaviour in a more pragmatic way.

This talk is part of the Engineering Department Geotechnical Research Seminars series.
