Ammonium nitrate: Safe oxidizer or dangerous explosive
- đ¤ Speaker: Martin Braithwaite, Laboratory for Scientific Computing, The Cavendish Laboratory
- đ Date & Time: Thursday 20 February 2014, 16:00 - 17:00
- đ Venue: Mott Seminar Room, Cavendish Laboratory
Abstract
Ammonium nitrate has its very own Wikipedia page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ammonium_nitrate_disasters). Why does such an apparently stable solid have such a bad accident record? The talk will discuss the properties of ammonium nitrate, incidents and public perception of ammonium nitrate hazards.
Series This talk is part of the Physics and Chemistry of Solids Group series.
