If you have a question about this talk, please contact Mustapha Amrani. Mathematics and Applications of Branes in String and M-theory I will discuss connections between sporadic groups and modular forms including the original connection between the monster and the modular function J, the more recent connections between the Mathieu group M24 and the mock modular form appearing in the decomposition of the elliptic genus of K3 surfaces into N=4 characters, and some work in progress which generalizes this latter connection to other groups and Jacobi forms.
