A new legacy of Cavendish radio astronomy: high dynamic range imaging of 3CRR

What do we truly know about radio-loud AGN ? The Cambridge radio surveys at MRAO in the 20th century have built a foundational catalogue of the brightest radio sources in the sky and have transformed our understanding over the years on the nature of radio jets, AGN life cycles, and high energy physics. However, modern radio telescopes capable of deep, sensitive imaging have revealed new features in radio AGN , such as synchrotron filaments, tails and exotic particle acceleration. I present my on-going work on high dynamic range imaging of radio AGN from the Cambridge radio catalogues (3CRR), revealing new insights into the physics of these important objects.
