On Christmas Eve, 1525, Dr. Robert Barnes preached what is widely regarded as the first sermon in England expressing openly Protestant views from the pulpit of St Edward, King and Martyr, in the centre of Cambridge. To commemorate this landmark event, St. Edward’s Church and Trinity Hall will host a mini-symposium from 2-5pm on Saturday 6 Dec 2025.

Our speakers will share with the audience their expertise as it pertains to questions such as (but not limited to) these: – What is the legacy of the Protestant Reformation, and Christianity in general, to civil society? – Christianity and public good: essential, irrelevant, or detrimental? – How did Christianity influence the growth and dynamics of colonialism and liberal democracy?
