If you have a question about this talk, please contact Ben Karniely. Abstract: Almost everything you know about university coding projects – short duration, small teams, stable requirements and clean data – has no relevance to the majority of IT work in commercial organisations. In this presentation we’ll introduce the concepts of Metadata and Data Governance, and how they can be applied to help companies manage their sprawling, complex and imperfect systems more effectively. We’ll touch on what makes Metadata Management technically interesting as a discipline and discuss how something that might be regarded as a necessary chore can be made more valuable than that. Speaker Details: James Wyper is a Technical Account Manager at Ab Initio Software. His role involves working with existing and prospective customers to help them understand the capabilities of the Ab Initio platform and ensure that they are getting the most out of their investment in it. He graduated from Cambridge back in the days when the computer room at Sidney Sussex still contained BBC Micros and prior to joining Ab Initio designed and built IT systems for a major UK retailer.
