The news media report daily on the future of creative professions, as generative AI writes novels, renders films, and produces music. Yet every human has the “creative profession” of constructing themselves as a person. How does this change when AI businesses, social media and recommender algorithms get involved in telling our life stories? This talk will look at some of the fundamentals of machine learning and information theory, providing critical perspective on creative tools, AI slop and bullshit, and suggesting new opportunities for the algorithms of the future that enhance human life rather than degrading it.
