When the Royal Society was founded in 1662, England was teaming with spirits. Where did they go? What was the relationship between science and magic? This talk will discuss these questions, exploring what magic and the occult meant in the past and introducing central problems in the history of science and medicine.

This talk is part of the Stokes Society, Pembroke College series.
