MHMW02 - Modern History of Mathematics: Looking Ahead This paper interrogates the ways in which new histories of geometry can be told by eschewing traditional discipline- or concept-driven narratives (e.g., focusing on the development of projective methods, of the notion of group, etc.) and by instead focusing on the textual, epistemic, and even embodied practices through which mathematicians defined, interacted with, and related to the objects of their research. A sample of case-studies, all revolving around the treatment of algebraic curves and their singularities, will be utilized to outline the potential uptake of such an approach.
