If you have a question about this talk, please contact Dr Yamini K Rao. Heating the solar corona is one of the key areas of research in solar physics. In this presentation, we look at how energy can be stored in the coronal magnetic field and released in an avalanche process, whereby the release of energy by magnetic reconnection in one location can result in the triggering of energy release in nearby regions. Heating is release across a much larger area and the implications for heating the solar corona are discussed. This talk is part of the DAMTP Astro Mondays series.
