Lionel Messi the greatest footballer of all time

Born Lionel Andrés Messi Cuccittini in Rosario, Argentina on the 24th of June 1987.

The Argentina and Barcelona legend is considered by many as the greatest footballer of all time.

At 16 four months, and 23 days old, he made his first-team debut when he came on in the 75th minute during a friendly against José Mourinho’s Porto on 16 November 2003.

In 2005 he was close to joining Juventus as then Old Lady manager Fabio Capello proposed an offer to loan and activate his €150 million buyout clause.

But he turned down the proposition as revealed later by then Barcelona President Joan Laporta, who also said it was the only time the club faced a real risk of losing him.

Lionel Messi has won multiple awards at club level and many personal honors.

In Barcelona, he won 10 La Liga titles (2004–05, 2005–06, 2008–09, 2009–10, 2010–11, 2012–13, 2014–15, 2015–16, 2017–18, 2018–19).

Six Copa del Rey titles (2008–09, 2011–12, 2014–15, 2015–16, 2016–17, 2017–18), seven Supercopa de España titles (2006, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2016, 2018).

He won four UEFA Champions League titles (2005–06, 2008–09, 2010–11, 2014–15), three UEFA Super Cup (2009, 2011, 2015), and three FIFA Club World Cup (2009, 2011, 2015).

Lionel Messi has multiple honors and he is arguable the most decorated footballer dead or alive.

He has won a record six Ballon d’Or/FIFA Ballon d’Or awards (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019), a World Cup Golden Ball.

FIFA World Player of the Year in 2000 and The Best FIFA Men’s Player in 2019.

Lionel Messi won the European Golden Shoe in 2009–10, 2011–12, 2012–13, 2016–17, 2017–18, 2018–19, and Copa América Golden Ball in 2015.

He won Argentina UEFA Men’s Player of the Year Award in 2011, 2015, and UEFA Club Footballer of the Year in 2009.

He won La Liga Best Player in 2008–09, 2009–10, 2010–11, 2011–12, 2012–13, and 2014–15.

Messi was La Liga Best Forward in 2008–09, 2009–10, 2010–11, 2011–12, 2012–13, 2014–15, 2015–16 and the Pichichi Trophy winner in 2009–10, 2011–12, 2012–13, 2016–17, 2017–18, 2018–19, and 2019–20.

He was named in FIFA FIF Pro World11 in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019.

Messi also made the UEFA Team of the Year in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.

While he has been super successful individually and at club level he hasn’t been successful with the Argentina national team losing on Copa America and World Cup finals.

But he won the with the FIFA U -20 World Cup in 2005 beating Nigeria team led by John Mikel Obi in the final.

Lionel Messi also beat the Nigerian team to claim the Olympics Gold medal in 2008.
