In this talk I will explore one of the levers that multidisciplinary teams can pull, that of the design of the crop itself. I will review the current state of the art in crop genetics in an attempt to demonstrate what is possible. I will then focus on the soft fruit industry and highlight some of the challenges and opportunities around sustainable intensification.
