Faculty of Music Colloquia 2025/6

We are thrilled to present a diverse range of speakers this term, who will be sharing their work on a broad range of topics in an intellectually stimulating and inclusive environment. Questions to speakers are welcome and encouraged from all attendees in the hope of sparking lively discussions and debates. Everyone is warmly invited to join the speaker and committee members for refreshments and snacks in the foyer 30 minutes before before each talk, as well as dinner afterwards. Please note that all sessions will begin promptly at the time advertised.

In order to accommodate more members of the Faculty, we hold two colloquia this term at 1pm, with the rest at 5pm. These lunchtime sessions will be held in Week 4 (18 February) and Week 7 (11 March) of Lent term. Most sessions will take place in Lecture Room 2, apart from in Week 1 (28 January), where the session will be held in the Recital Room.

This academic year, in order to make the Q&A more accessible for all, we are going to make use of Eve Tuck’s approach to facilitate academic questions and answers. Tuck recommends a five-minute break between the talk and the question period. During this break, she recommends the audience discusses the presentations and any questions they may wish to ask amongst themselves, partly as a way of having time to think and of peer-reviewing questions to ensure that these are framed supportively. Through the Q&A, we ask everyone to be aware of how much space they take up in the conversation, as it would be great to hear from as many of you as possible.

Please feel free to reach out to any of our committee members should you have questions or recommendations, although it is worth noting that we have now finalised the full programme of speakers for the entire 2025/26 academic year.

The Colloquium Committee 2025/6 Lindsay Friday, Dr Alisha Lola Jones, Holly Lawson, Jack Stebbing, and Dr Emmanuela Wroth
