DESCRIPTION:Participatory research aims to involve participant
s as active collaborators and challenge power diff
erentials in the production of knowledge. Particip
atory approaches have also been central to decolon
ial and feminist research. However\, what are the
problems in using selected participatory methods a
s an ‘add-on’ to an already elaborated research pr
oject\, and what should we do when the participato
ry process breaks down? How can the research remai
n relevant to the lives and concerns of the partic
ipants\, and ultimately remain ethical – particula
rly when working with disadvantaged communities an
d intersectional inequalities? This talk will disc
uss some challenges and ethical issues encountered
in (non-)participatory research with indigenous w
 omen in Bolivia.
