DESCRIPTION:This talk introduces the notion of empirical measu
rements of designing and contrasts it with design
theory. It describes three categories of measureme
 nt:\n\n1. Design Cognitiometrics: the measurement
of design cognition\, generally using protocol ana
 lysis\;\n2. Design Physiometrics: the measurement
of the designer’s physiology while designing using
sensing devices\; and\n3. Design Neurometrics: th
e measurement of the designer’s neurophysiology wh
ile designing using non-intrusive brain activity c
apture.\n\nThe talk presents examples from each of
the three categories and closes with implications
for designers and for design theories.\n
