DESCRIPTION:To design columns\, foundations or mooring systems
  for offshore structures in areas exposed to ice\,
  accurate estimates of global ice loads on the str
 ucture are required. In this presentation a compar
 ison is made between the current practice of desig
 n of structures in ice and design of structures in
  waves and how loading is determined. The use of n
 umerical models could increase the accuracy of ice
  load and structural response predictions\, leadin
 g to reduced costs and risk of failure. Current us
 e\, gaps and ongoing development of numerical mode
 ls for ice load prediction on structures are discu
 ssed.&nbsp\;
