DESCRIPTION:Philosophers from different eras\, locations\, and
philosophical traditions have all used short chun
ks of text to write their philosophical work. Yet
today\, we are hugely reliant on the essay as the
prime form for philosophical output.\n\nThis talk
will be a panel discussion with speakers from four
different faculties\, covering thinkers from thre
e continents and 2500 years.\n\nHow can we use for
m to achieve our philosophical goals? How have aph
orisms and fragments been used in different philos
ophical traditions? What makes all of this work ph
ilosophical? Would these thinkers have used Twitte
 r?\n\nPanel discussion:\n* Professor Gábor Betegh
of the Faculty of Classics will be speaking on Her
aclitus.\n* Dr. Jenny Zhao of the Needham Research
Institute will address Confucius.\n* Dr. Arif Ahm
ed of the Faculty of Philosophy will be looking at
aspects of Wittgenstein.\n* Dr. Nolen Gertz (@eth
icistforhire) of the University of Twente speaking
