DESCRIPTION:Recently there has appeared an explosion of writin
gs in English focused on perspectives on science\,
technology and society from Latin America. These
have met with varied responses from Northern 'inte
rnational' history\, philosophy and social studies
of science and technology. Here I suggest that ma
ny of the most positive and welcoming such respons
es nevertheless tend to replicate the now long dis
credited Unit of Science program. They do so insof
ar as they propose\, often enthusiastically\, to i
nclude the Latin American issues and arguments int
o their existing conceptual frameworks for the his
tory\, philosophy or social studies of science. Ye
t many of the Latin American accounts overtly resi
st such inclusion. Rather they insist on foregroun
ding the different worlds assumed by such Latin Am
 erican work\, and\, consequently\, what they regar
d as valuably persisting conflicts and tensions be
tween these worlds. They advocate for parochializi
ng Northern history\, philosophy and social studie
s of science\, and thus for ontological as well as
  epistemological pluralism in these fields.
