r and Communications' - John Roulston OBE\, Scimu

DESCRIPTION:This is the digital systems age in radar and maybe
more importantly an increasingly commercial age.
We see MIMO and STAP processing become practical t
hrough spin-off from digital communications. Commu
nications technology has made practical small rada
rs that penetrate walls in buildings resolving peo
ple within and at the same time enables large ball
istic missile defence arrays. Around the world the
re are feverish efforts to harness radar technique
for increased security\, as a commercial\, not mi
litary enterprise.\n\nThis lecture will deal with
these very modern evolutions on the exchange bound
ary between communications and radar\, outlining t
heir physical principles\, illustrating the techno
logies and consequences for radar architectures. I
t provides an opportunity to get up to speed in mo
dern thinking on digital radar technologies and ap
 plications across a broad sector.\n\n
