DESCRIPTION:__Lp__-__cohomology__ is a quant
itative version of __cohomology__ of topologica
l spaces\, well suited for a g
eometric study of __noncompact__ spaces and groups. It has been used with partial success
in connection with problems in high-dimensional to
pology (Singer'\;s conjecture on the Euler characteristic of __aspherical__ manifolds)\,
low-dimensional topology (Cannon'
\;s conjecture on groups whose boundary is a 2-sph
ere)\, __Riemannian__ geometry (optimal
curvature pinching) and coarse geometry (hyperboli
c locally compact groups\, coarse __embeddi
ngs__ between __nilpotent__ or hyperbo
lic groups). The course will provide background on
these problems and be as self-contained as possib
le.
