DESCRIPTION:For the past 8 years\, increasing interest in the
epidemiology of sedentary behaviour (SB) has fuell
ed academic efforts. Initial evidence seemed to su
ggest that SB was a new risk factor for chronic di
sease\, independent of physical activity. Clear p
 hysiological mechanisms\, supported by experimenta
l evidence\, were proposed to define the metabolic
risks of prolonged uninterrupted sitting. As epid
emiological evidence has accumulated\, nuanced cha
nges in the evidence base have appeared\, such tha
t sitting risk does not appear to be independent o
f physical activity. However\, some researchers an
d policymakers seem resistant to apparent changes
 in the evidence base.
