DESCRIPTION:Dirichlet forms have been extensively studied in c
lassical probability theory\nsince their introduct
ion by A. Beurling and J. Deny in two seminal pape
rs.\nIn a sense\, they give the repartition of the
energy in a physical system and\nas such are rela
ted to certain partial differential equations\, th
is connection\nbeing made by the so-called Dirichl
et Problem. My goal in the first part of\nthe talk
will be to introduce them in the simple framework
of a finite set\nand to make the connection with
the associated Markov process on this set.\nThen w
e will enlarge the study to locally compact metric
spaces and we will\nsee how those ideas can be ge
neralized to the non-commutative setting.
