DESCRIPTION:Mobile phones are transforming into trusted person
al devices or mobile multimedia computers that hav
e capabilities to interact with the local environm
ent via embedded short range radios\, sensors\, ca
meras\, and advanced audio functionality. At the s
ame time\, these mobile computers will function bo
th as a server for global/local internet services
and as a client for global internet services. Thus
mobile multimedia computers can serve as gateways
that connects local measured information and glob
al internet based services. The mobile multimedia
computers create a versatile platform for sensing\
, computing and secure communication. Sensors are
an important enabling technology for user interfac
e and several applications and services in mobile
communication. Implentation and architecture of se
nsors in the mobile multimedia computers are discu
ssed. The latest technologies for short range radi
os\, such as Wibree and RFID technologies\, are re
viewed. The consumer and enterprise applications a
nd services based sensing and communication are pr
 esented. Finally\, Nokia's latest initiatives in s
ensor network research\, Nokia Sensor Planet\, and
  in nanotechnologies are discussed.
